Avionics Repair & Installation

The KBFS Part 145 Repair Station and General Aviation Maintenance facility are located at Draughon-Miller Airport in Temple, TX. KBFS offers on-site services at Temple and is able to provide many services off-site at the customer location, if different from Draughon-Miller Airport. The following paragraphs describe many of the maintenance services KBFS offers.

Avionics Installation

KBFS is a recognized leader in Central Texas for installing avionics, radios, and navigation in rotary and fixed wing aircraft for General Aviation Owners and flight academies operated by private industry, technical schools, and other institutions of higher learning. KBFS has excellent relationships with several highly rated manufacturers and vendors that sell state-of-the art radios, GPS navigation, flight instruments, and the Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B). Aircraft owners must have the ADS-B installed by January 2020 on all aircraft operating in the national air route structure and otherwise controlled airspace. Because of these relationships, our customers often qualify for significant discounts on equipment purchases and installation.

Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B)

KBFS is one of the leading ADS-B installers in Texas. We carry the most advanced systems available through vendor agreements, and we have on hand the most advanced installation and testing tools and equipment. ADS-B is part of the United State Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).  The ADS-B system is a recent innovation in surveillance technology which allows a pilot to determine his aircraft position using satellite navigation, and more importantly, broadcasts that position to other similarly equipped aircraft and ground stations. The broadcasting permits more effective tracking of the aircraft by Air Traffic Control (ATC) and other agencies for the purpose of collision avoidance, separation of traffic in high density aviation operations, and incident reporting.

Avionics Repair

KBFS has on-site capability to test and analyze many different types of radios, navigation, flight and electrical systems.  We have the capability to repair many of the more popular communications and avionics systems installed on General Aviation aircraft. Our highly skilled technicians inspect, troubleshoot, and analyze malfunctioning equipment; perform bench repairs and testing; reinstall on the aircraft; and functionally test on the ground and in the air.  Our Part 145 credentials and insurance stand behind our work to ensure every customer is completely satisfied.

VFR/IFR Certifications

Each year, KBFS avionics technicians complete more General Aviation VFR certifications than any comparable Part 145 operation in Central Texas.  Our rates are very competitive and our work is top quality. We service nearly all types of General Aviation aircraft, using the latest equipment and publications to ensure all equipment is operating in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer specifications. We offer this service at our Part 145 hangar in Temple, or we can conduct the certification at your location.

Sales and Service

KBFS has significantly expanded its relationship with equipment manufacturers over the past five years. Because we offer our customers a wide range of competitively priced systems, we have become the leading provider of avionics solutions—including equipment sales, services, and installations—in Central Texas. Today, we are a factory-authorized dealer for most major avionics equipment manufacturers, including Aspen, Avidyne, Garmin International, PS International, Cobham/S-TEC, Meggit, UAL, Freeflight systems, Genesys Aerosystems, and many others.
